2012: The Year of Video

2012 will be the year of many things. A leap year. A presidential election. Some think the end of times. But 2012 will most certainly be the year of video.

According to Search Engine Watch, 182 million American Internet users watched video at an average of 23.2 hours per viewer. And those are only statistics for the month of December 2011. With mega titans YouTube, Vimeo, VEVO, Netflix and Hulu these statistics are not surprising. Have you noticed how YouTube now likes to sneak short ads in after watching several videos in succession? This is the future. As the world edges away from traditional forms of visual media (VHS, DVD, Blu-ray, etc.), streaming video content becomes the trend of the future (think 8-track to cassette tapes to CDs to MP3s). This opens limitless marketing possibilities, with interactive and HTML5 video overtaking current video trends.

In our last blog you read about the release of Super Bowl ads before game night. Thanks to YouTube, some of our favorite commercials were available to view days and even weeks before the game. Some of them were even created with customer-generated content. 2012 is certainly the year to watch.

What do you think video has in store for 2012?
